June 9, 1909 - January 31, 1993

Fritz Henle was a German born photographer, known as "Mr. Rollei" for his use of the 2.25" square format film used in the Rolleiflex camera. Called, "the last classic freelance photographer" by photographer" by photohistorian, Helmut Gernsheim. Fritz had a career spanning more than 60 years, during which he amassed an archive of more than 110,000 negatives, representing images of Europe, India, Japan, Hawaii, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Fritz Henle lived in St. Croix, U.S.V.I. and was a good friend to Charlie Blair and his wife Maureen O'Hara. He took many photos of them and Antilles Air Boats. Some of his photos are posted to this site.

Fritz Henle's timeless photography... a new showing in New York City.
Fritz Henle's Antilles Air Boats images

I purchased these photos from Fritz Henle's  Gallery back in 1979 and had them framed and hung them in the AAB - St. Croix maintenance office. I'm  standing in front of a couple for a quick ID photo.

Exciting new addition

Charlie Freehling recently sent on 18 of Fritz Henle's  2.25" square format color transparencies of Antilles Air Boats' Gooses at various location within their scheduled routes. The slides are nearly 50 years old and today's conversion would not meet Fritz's standard for reproduction. His eye and lens were always ready to capture a special moment.

Check out the gallery of Henle slides below.
